A full screwdriver set might seem like it has far more sizes than you will ever need, but then there comes a day where you realize that your screwdriver set is missing a size that you desperately need. It is thus better to buy the sizes that you need most rather than to buy a full set that you later find is incomplete. A flat head screwdriver is also sometimes referred to as a slotted screwdriver.
These screwdrivers are the easiest to recognize because of its wedge-shaped end. These hex keys are sometimes referred to as Allen wrenches and these screwdrivers usually come in an L-shaped key with no handle. Measurements for the sizes of hex keys are done across the flat parts of the hex.
The Robertson drive is commonly referred to as a square drive and is very popular in both electrical and construction fields. Now, the point of this series is quick tips — not DCR-length crazy tips. While designed for running on a treadmill as it also includes running pace and cadence , it actually works just fine for any activity you want — including cycling on Zwift.
I detailed the whole feature here in a post a few months ago. Or, if you found this post a year or so in the future and have some mysterious new watch not listed above, it probably supports this method.
Now, simply open up your app of choice, and you should see the Garmin watch listed, by the name of the watch itself:. You can discard this later on, but otherwise that pairing window times out after about minutes. Then afterwards just stop and discard it. Virtually every Garmin wearable ever made supports this. The basics steps below are basically the same on any Garmin wearable.
A Ad-hoc broadcasting only when you want it B Turn on broadcasting every time you start a workout. But my favorite option is to simply enable it anytime I start a workout no matter the type. The battery impact here is negligible. Super practical if you forgot your HR strap or such. Finally, as I mentioned earlier, there are some other watches that can broadcast your optical HR out as well. They are as follows:.
I outlined this in a post last week here. Whoop 3. Notably, while some Polar wearables do broadcast your HR on some older watches, it really only works reliably with other Polar gear. With that — hopefully you found this post useful, and the shorter format helpful as well for these sort of brief how-to type items. Your email address will not be published. Someone have an idea to help me.
You can see at the garmin forums that WHR is abominable with the f6. Great post as always. There is one annoying caveat here and in general: if the watch is paired with multiple devices and you get somehow disconnected, it may jump on another bluetooth device and there is no way to select what device you want to connect to.
Best solution so far has been to turn BT off on the others but not always possible. Tied this with my Garmin Forerunner ANT and it does work, however during cycling it always reads too low.
A lot too low. During running a is fine, cycling not so much. A full on max effort, heart rate stays like when it should be or there about. After selecting swim as activity the sensor is switched off, if you use the quick menu to enable and disable broadcasting of the hr, the sensor is switched on and stays on. After that you can start the swim activity. There is no heart rate information inside the activity, but the watch uses it to calculate the intensity and you can use the daily graph to see how high your heart rate has been.
As far as I can see they only have the ad hoc broadcast HR option. Not broadcast during activity. Is this right or am I missing something? I would like to see more on accuracy…can you point us to any past wearable review with accuracy testing in a trainer vs.
Either during activity, or from the sensor settings menu. But is there anyway other than leaving broadcast HR on permanently to have the Edge automatically capture watch HR data? Can it be used for Peloton cycling? Have you considered instead syncing to Strava and then manually exporting that and uploading that to Garmin? I see you mention Whoop in there. I know it has been asked before, but do you plan to do a review on Whoop at any point? Yup, working on it now, to release later this month.
Its really a shame because there seems to by no hardware limitation on the Vantage series for example. But maybe they prefer to sell a ton of H9 and H10 belts what I can understand from a commercial persepective.
Literally for beta testing you load the same firmware. They have some extremely minor features and SKU-specific watch faces that appear to turn on and off by detecting the model that the firmware is running on f6X vs Tactix: secure wipe and night vision mode. It also seems like airplane mode is renamed to stealth mode on Tactix. Otherwise I think the features are identical.
Looking back at it, being indoors most of the time in not to sunny UK, the non-solar would have been fine. For those of us that Zwift cycle with a watch, you really think some Garmin guide or FAQ really wants to tell us to start or hold on the start screen? This is useless. The activity should be tracked in Garmin. Howdy, Is there anyway to stop the power saver mode from stopping the HR broadcast after about 20 mins on extended mode?
I broadcast HR from my xt to an edge Cheers, Paul. Been using this feature with Zwift for a while with my iPaf. Virtual Run is a reasonable start.
Those features should off course trickle down to Vivoactive 4 and other same generation watches. There is no HW reason why it should not be possible. I recently got a VA 3 and have used it to broadcast while rowing on an erg.
It seems consistently low and at one point dropped my HR from close to down to the mids mid-workout. Am I right in thinking that if you are using your hands for your activity it may negatively impact HR? I see better results if I move it up my arm, away from my wrist.
But even then it seems a bit low. Is this also an issue when cycling? Yes, definitely. Cadence lock is a common problem when biking, also, or even more, on a stationary bike.
The result is that I discovered that the VA3 high on my arm is fairly accurate after a while, but way off early, and sometimes still goes wonky. So I rely solely on the chest strap. I want to broadcast my HR while Zwifting and I want to record the activity as well.
I established connections with TP and GC so that my zwift workout would be uploaded. So after my first zwift ride, I looked at GC and although cycling data, i. I record what I can on my F6 or my Edge to have consistant data. True-Up is True-Pain related to training load etc. Lockdown here in South Africa entails not leaving your property.
Now running laps around my patio partially covered. It appears the gps on my Garmin loses signal and thus distance on the covered portion. I am wearing a footpod. Is it possible to set the watch to take distance from the footpod?
Would setting it to indoor running do this? I notice in the 4. Pair with zwift companion and works great, better than broadcast. Is there an accuracy difference between the optical and the chest strap? But am I the only one that thinks this is a big work around for the sake of buying a chest strap?
Nice article and very timely. How do I activate those or is there a way to start the activity without it? I added a screen for cadence and speed so I can track my bike workout. Is there any way that my Fenix5X can broadcast steps? Hopefully that way I can use Zwift on a treadmill without having to buy a foot pod. Thanks Kaz Any recommendations on what stride sensor to get?
My Garmin one has died and 2 x wahoo ones refuse to pair with Zwift. My preference by far is Stryd — any Stryd footpod will do fine for treadmill. I use Stryd inside and outside and would not be without it.
Unless Garmin suddenly gets a lot better at tracking via GPS. It stays on the TM. NPE Runn is the cheaper solution — and I think they have a sale on? But Stryd gets you Watt readouts — which is great for outside pacing. So if you normally run at watt — going up a hill at the same speed would maybe put you at watt doing the same speed.
And everyone knows if you have had your HR up high — it can take a while to get it down again. And you might not notice your HR increasing running uphill — as HR is a lacking indicator. So from you start running uphill until you see the full effect — it can be too late. The Watt indications show almost instantly.
So Stryd is my pacing tool and my distance measure. My NPE should arrive tomorrow so I can tell more after that. My kids are quite young so they often run holding the bar during some of the run — so run distances are never even close based on the acceleration meter in the watches — therefore the NPE Runn..
And I supervise all their runs closely — as kids are only 5 and 7. Kevin, you might want to use an indoor or treadmill running mode instead of the GPS-based running mode.
Sorry, I wanted to ask when will be possible to broadcast indoor running pace to Zwift for instance…. Can the Vantage V be used day tot day training, activity-log, sleep-log and seperatly the Grit X only for trail-running and mountainbiking? Wil the sleep recovery en orthostatic test values uploaded from the Vantage V be used by the fitspark training advice in the Grit X and visa versa. Have a Venu for 3 months now. Instead of using this, I actually have to use my chest strap monitor and connect it to my watch.
After 10 minutes I have found that the Garmin watch is pretty good. I have tried various tightnesses around my wrist, makes no difference. Very annoying, especially for indoor activities that may only last 45 min when it takes to get an accurate reading. Anecdotally, I also found this happens more often when the temperature is cold outside or my HR is low.
My only problem is the heart rate seems crazy low. My only thought is it might be something to do with the way Garmin calculates HR in this mode — since it seems to work better in different positions on the bike. Has anyone else had this problem?
Would be great if Garmin would just release a virtual cycle activity! A link from Garmin support re HR Bluetooth broadcasting with virtual run and supported Garmin watches. Hello Ray Thank for the instructions — helpful as always! I have only one problem using this app with tacx neo 2t and pairing it to the tacx app on my android tablet.
It is pairing and transmitting all good but it is stuck in the ready to pair screen although it shows in the lower data field bluetooth connection with my tablet and also in the tacx app it shows connected and is transmitting. Thank you very much Matthias.
Please help. Out of curiosity something appears to be preventing my and iPhone running the Elite HRV app from hooking up. It is as if something is missing, the same thing happened when I tried it with FulGaz — is this feature compatible only with particular Apps?
Thanks, Ray — I am broadcasting heart rate from my FR to my garmin edge while cycling. And I have a display set up to see it while I am riding. But it drops out! Today on a short 1 hour ride, it dropped out maybe 5 or 6 times. I have to go to my watch, stop broadcasting, then start again, then the edge will start picking up signal again.
The watch is showing heart rate all the time, so what is happening? The drop outs are annoying and distracting when I have to mess with my watch to get the edge to connect again.
What am I missing? Would one of these methods work? I like the Edge for cycling metrics and my forerunner for heart rate and therefore calories burned , but I cannot figure out how to link them.
Thank you for any assistance. So basically, go on your Edge into sensor pairing mode. Then, on the FR, you an go into the settings, just the optical HR sensor, and set it to either broadcast now, or, broadcast when in an activity.
For the moment, choose to broadcast now. Now, back on your Edge search for a new HR sensor. For future workouts you can either start a workout on the FR which activates the HR sensor broadcasting , or, you can just manually broadcast your HR without starting a workout.
Hi DC! I want to use my Garmin 6x as a heart monitor strap. Any idea where I get the ID?? I have attached a screenshot from the app. Do you know if this was intentional? I have a trainer that only receives BLE Heartrate.. This would be a critical spec for me to make the purchase decision, mostly because I want to avoid having the HRM belt. I have a Forerunner — Broadcast Heart rate I. Settings either Off or Auto not On.
Tried to get Zwift to pair with it without success. I thought a Black Friday bargain on a Venu was hard to pass up. Beautiful screen and less sensitivity to sweat and shower than VA3.
Battery life running solid at 5 days, matching functional life of When paired to my laptop to use zwift, my watch HRM is always way off. My HR week be in s but the watch will stay at 70 to 80 bpm.
However, once I disconnect from the computer, the accuracy is back to normal! If someone is interested: link to apps. It was immediately obvious that it was not playing ball at all, at least for the first 25 mins of the workout. This was consistent across every workout I did using this approach. I figured my watch was on the blink, but then recorded an activity without broadcast and it chimed in as normal and matched the trace of my new HR strap bar one little jump which I accept as a warm up issue.
See pic attached. Anyone seeing this? I wondered is this is down to it not recording an activity so the sensor is not forced into life? I will try the during activity broadcast to see if the unit registers HR in the usual manner.
Does it brodcast the run metrics or do i need to buy cadence sensor to? Have you tested the garmin vivioactive 3. I have problems to pair the watch with tacx training app or zwift. Hope you have an answer. My Fenix 6s is connected to a Samsung S8 via Garmin Connect app and it shows up as a paired Bluetooth device in the phone settings. All works as it should.
However… if I broadcast Heartrate or use virtual run to use the Fenix wrist HR monitor in Strava or Tacx Training app, it works as it should while the activity is running but when I finish the recording in Strava or finish a Tacx Training app ride or workout, the Fenix immediately goes into Bluetooth pairing mode, the watch shows as not connected in Garmin connect and it does not show up as a paired or even an available device in the phone Bluetooth settings.
The only way to get the Fenix paired again is to turn phone BT off and on again once or more times and when it shows up, repair and then go thru the Garmin Connect device setup routine again. Sometimes the only fix is to Remove Device in Garmin Connect and add it back again. Any suggestions on this? I have a forerunner 35 which has bluetooth. I want to pair the heartrate with my tacx genius which has also bluetooth and is connected with the tacx app.
Now the genius streams the rpm, watt to the tacx app but I want to have my heartrate also visible in de tacx app via my forerunner.
Is this possible and how should this be done? Dear Jerry, I have the same problem. I have a tacx neo , an android tablet and Vivoactive 3 which Is replaced by Garmin by a V4, because they said it would work with the tacx training app. I found on in the internet, the only thing which works is virtual run. Yesterday i got the garmin music, And tested it with the Tacx training app on my android tablet and I see my heart rate in the app.
Also tested the the vertial run on Zwift and works as well. And is the only way to get the HR to show by buying an alternative HR monitor?
But i really want the running data. Is the only solution to just not use the Peloton running app? Or is there a clever app that can combine it all? This is not working for my watch.
Any videos on how to sync the HR from my garmin vivo4S to my peloton app? I had this connected once before and now I cannot get it to sync. I have asked for support from both Garmin and Peloton. No success. Thank you, Mirko. Is this possible? I have scoured the internet and am at wits end. Please help me out!
